BROKEN NEWS UPDATE: AMAZON SHOPPERS WILL BE “REDIRECTED” TO NEW SEARS SITE ON BLACK FRIDAY

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.—After Monday’s bombshell announcement that it would be acquiring Amazon, New Sears said that to keep the corporate acquisition as seamless as possible, it will put a clickable hyperlink at the top of Amazon’s landing page, making it easy and convenient for shoppers to be redirected from amazon.com to sears.com. A corporate spokesperson said that New Sears boss Eddie Lampert is hoping Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, who headed up Amazon Web Services prior to succeeding former CEO Jeff Bezos, applies for the job as New Sears’ head IT guy. The spokesperson said that Lampert would like to bring back the nostalgic Sears catalog, which at one point exceeded 600 pages and sold everything from toys to DIY kits for homes but was discontinued in 1993. Lampert, however, is keen on sustainability and sees the AWS cloud as a way to revive the catalog electronically. Amazon, including Jassy and Bezos, has yet to comment. There have been reports, however, that people are rushing to pay for their Prime membership renewals before New Sears completes the acquisition as concerns grow that Lampert, who is also a hedge fund manager, will change the structure of the annual membership cost from a flat, fixed fee (currently $119) to a percentage cut (possibly as high as 25%) of all purchases during the year.

  1. One reason I liked working for Sears (33yrs.) was that I knew they would never go out of business. As a boy, I used to order from their catalog. I think purchasing Amazon is a smart move.
